 Minutes of Meeting Oct 23 2017

There were 76 members and guests at this meeting.

Our illustrious president opened the meeting at 6:05 PM.

Dave R. thanked John H. for the blessing for our meal at 5:00 pm.

Everyone was thanked for bringing in side dishes for this final meeting of the year.

Dave R. thanked our members for their help for everything during this past year.

Our club is sponsoring a table at Belk’s on Friday Oct. 28th from 2:00 PM till 6:00 PM to sell charity tickets for Belk’s Charity Day on Nov. 4th. Special hours will be from 6:00 AM till 10:00AM. There will be gift cards at the door for the first 100 people. You must have a ticket to get in. The ticked price is $5.00 and you get $5.00 off your purchase on this day. Our club gets to keep the $5.00 paid for this ticket.

We will be participating at the annual Home Show at Flagler Palm Coast High school on Sat. and Sunday Jan. 20-21 2018.   We will have the same location as last year. We need volunteers to help man the table during the show. Please bring items to put on table to show visitors and of course take them back with you when you leave. This is a great way our club shows the public what we do and how we can help them get free evaluations of their collections.

A motion was made and seconded that we continue our club’s support for the Friend’s Of The Library. This passed unanimously.

Our club will also be participating at the Festival of Trees being held at the Palm Coast Library. Our set up time will be November 28th at 5:00 PM. We need a few members to please show up to help. This will only take about thirty minutes. Also, Dave R. has asked all of our members to make a personalized ornament and bring it to the library and put this on the tree.

Our Treasurer, Bob K. gave the monthly financial report.

Jose L. spoke about an orphanage and school in Puerto Rico run by nuns that is in dire need of financial help due to the devastation from hurricane Irma. Our club took up a collection and with matching funds will send a check to them. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED FOR THIS CAUSE. The name of the orphanage/school is La Casa De Todos, The House For Everyone.

Kent S. spoke about Model A and T cars built by Ford. Everyone enjoyed this and had many questions. Kent has been given 10,000 points and a certificate.

We had a large and fun auction that had a lot of surprises for everyone.

Francine F. was present and accepted the Treasure Box when her name was called. Congratulations.

The door prize winners were # 221 Jacob S. and # 135 Jean P.

The 50/50 winner was #268 Bernie B.

Most of all from the bottom of our hearts we wish you all a very Happy and Health Holliday Season.

Minutes of Meeting September 25 2017

62 members and visitors were present.

At 5:00 PM John H. gave the blessing and we all ate pizza and side dishes brought in by our members.

Dave R. welcomed everyone to our meeting and hoped everyone got through IRMA in good shape.

Dave R. briefly spoke about his and Silvia’s trip our West with Alvin and Joyce.

The club was informed that Lisa S. had a grandson born at home during the storm. This is what I call a great souvenir from the storm.

Dave R. mentioned that the smallest post office survived the storm and is located on Hwy. 41 East of Naples.

Nominations were held for the year 2018. Dave R. was nominated for President by Bob Kegley and seconded by Angela S., Frankie D. was nominated for Vice-President by Francine F. and seconded by Jean P., Bob Kegley was nominated by Linda C. and seconded by Bernd B.

All of the nominations was closed and the nominated officers were elected.

Frankie D. read a thank you  letter from The Ronald McDonald House in Jacksonville, FL thanking our club for the huge box of stamps we sent them for their visiting patients and guests. This is just one of many donations that our club ships out to schools, orphanages, and clubs all over the world.

Our club welcomes our newest member Dennis M. #286. Thank you for joining our family.

Bob K. spoke about the new procedures for APO and FPO mailings and the responsibility of the Post Office and the Military Post Office getting the mail to our men and women in uniform.

John and Clyde S. spoke about advertisements on the back of Civil War currency and limited issue gold, platinum, and silver coins from the US Mint.

Allan K. spoke briefly on the growing Opioid problems in the US and locally.

A motion was made by John S.and seconded by Clyde S. that our club pays for the room rent, holiday meal, web site, and insurance for 2018. Passed with flying colors.

Special thank you to Tom H. who set up and took down the tables.

Special thank you to Ray and Martha for calling out special door prizes and to Angela and Kendra for delivering these items to the winners.

Thank you Angela and Kendra for manning the sign in table.

Minutes of Meeting August 28 2017

72 Members and Visitors

Dave R. opened the meeting at 6:00 PM on time for second month in a row! Great Job Dave.

There were at least 22 visitors with all kinds of stamp and coin collections to be evaluated by our members. This is a great civic duty we do for our community at no charge.

The Blessing for our meal was given by Nikki B. at 5:00 PM in her native language (Thailand).  Every one enjoyed the sub sandwiches and side dishes brought in by members.

Dave R. had everyone stand up for a moment for the passing of Jack Frost, Bill B.s long lived fishy. Jack will surely be missed by everyone!

William J. gave a 2 minute talk on how he encourages his grand children to collect stamps.

Bob K. gave a great financial report. We only have two more regular meetings this year.

Joyce C. spoke about Kindness Rocks and Shells that she paints and inscribes heart warming messages on them and then leaves them on the beach for visitors and residents to find. A great idea.

Ray H. gave another award winning talk on coins. His presentations are second to none and we look forward to his next installment.

Ed W. was presented with a special frame.

Dave R. told everyone who needs to contact him to use the club’s email (stampandcoin@hotmail.com) due to the fact that Dave and Silvia will not have a phone for the next 8 weeks. This started a barrage of ideas from the members. Dr. John Z suggested the use of a cell phone. Angela suggested that you can send and receive messages on this same device. What is this world coming to.  A phone with out a line connected to a wall?!!

Dave R. reminded the members that nominations will be accepted at our next meeting for President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasure. This is according to our by-laws. If an election is needed this will take place at our October meeting.

Special Mary Kay items were presented as door prizes to our members and visitors. Congratulations on these winners.

A special thank you to everyone who helped put up the tables at the end of the meeting and a special thanks to Alvin A. for setting up the room.

Our club welcomed two new members. #284 Barbara C. and #285 Will H.  Welcome to our club.

Special Auction door prizes went to Francine F., Alvin A., Joyce C., Rodney F., Ed W., and Rosie N.

Door prize winners for the $10.00 vouchers were # 206 Henry I. and #44 Jim B.

The 50/50 was won by #230 Kathy G. Congratulations to all our winners.

Our club had a Large and Lively Auction with bargains for all the top bidders. Let’s keep bringing in great items for our auction.

Minutes of Meeting July 24 2017

Dave R. opened the meeting at 6:00 PM on time for a change.

There were 67 members and guests present.

Dave R.  welcomed all the guests that brought items in to be evaluated and thanked everyone who brought in items for our “Pot Luck Snack Night”.

Jim B. gave the blessing for our meal.

Keith M. sneaked in for this meeting and is headed right back to cold country only to return in December.

Our annual show is a sell out again. A waiting list for our show in 2019 is being prepared.

Bob K  gave our treasure’s report.

Dave announced a new club within our club. “Two Minute Club” where members and guests can speak for two minutes on any subject and receive points. Extra points can be earned by the discretion of the President of our club. Points can be added to each months meeting. Points are worth nothing and you cannot get any big awards for most points. There might be special recognition at our Holiday Meal,  or not. Let’s have some fun with this and come join our “Two Minute Club”.

The following joined the “Two Minute Club” at this meeting.  Jose L.-Perf stamps, Bernd B.-Train Travel experience and postal museum where he received items for our youth-members. , Mike N.- 700 MPH train between NY and Washington,     

Bill B-spike about the APS “Philatelist”  magazine and Belgium stamps with not not deliver on Sunday labels., Angela talked about her school., Fran and Jane M. spoke about Corvettes and the Corvette Museum (Great Job Jane Keeping Franks In Line), Bob, S. spoke about the 43rd APS black tie convention in 1926 that showed his grandfather in a picture of this event., Frankie D. spoke about Trains in NY and Post Office items of interest., Rebecca from the Jacksonville Stamp club spoke about her 1 1/2 hour drive to our club to sort through the free stamp table and told everyone present how wonderful everyone was to her., Dave R. spoke about a package that was sent from PA and the clerk at the Post Office got tired of cancelling 3 and 4 cent stamps that were applied  and used a black magic marker to destroy the stamps., (Dave R. is now an official member of the “Two Minute Club”  and awarded himself with 1000 extra points because he can!) Rod F. spoke about Vera Linn was 100 years old and Rolls Royce is still a favorite car to own. Ed W. spoke elegantly about songs with posters from WW1 and was enjoyed by all. 

Special reminder…. Please wear your name badges to our meeting. If you need a new one please contact Robert K. by e-mail and he will make you a new one.

Minutes of Meeting June 26 2017

There were 61 members and guests present.

President Dave R. opened the meeting at 6:05 PM.

The club had a very busy night giving free evaluations of stamp and coin collections to the general public who came out in the rain for this free club service.

After welcoming everyone to our meeting and thanking everyone for the desserts (Dessert Night) Dave R. introduced our newest member #283   Kent   S.

Dave R. spoke briefly on our 14th annual show tables selling well.

Dave R. mentioned that even though we had a heavy rainstorm at the time of the meeting that he was ecstatic with the turnout.

We had eight speakers tonight:

Bob K. gave the financial report and spoke about fake pennies and the removal of the 1 cent coin and the dollar bill.

Frankie D. spoke about items not used in the Post Office anymore and new delivery concerns that some criminals are putting in false new address cards to the post office.

Anatoly spoke on the history of the Ukraine/Crimea in early 1900’s and his collection of Russian stamps.

Dr. John Z. spoke about starting a committee  to put frames together for members to show items at our meetings. This is a great idea.  Dr. Zak will chair this committee.

Linda C. spike about the July 18th open house at the election office from 10:00 am till 6:00 pm in Bunnell which will showcase new equipment and a mock election.

Mike N. spoke about George Gay and his actions at the battle of Midway in the Pacific.

Jean H. spoke about being careful with tampered gift cards at Publix and other stores.

Silvia R. was presented two gift cards from the club for her special birthday.

Our club had a very active live auction that was a lot of fun.

Door Prize Voucher winners:  #135 Jean P. and # 44 Jim B.

50/50 winners: # 275 David S. and #210 Jane M.

David R. shared his high school yearbook picture of himself next to his twin brother and asked everyone to guess which was Dave. The majority picked the wrong pic.

The treasure Box winner was # 281 James V. who was NOT present to take home his winnings. Better luck next month.

Dave R. thanked everyone for helping put up and take down the tables.

A special thank you goes out to Bob H. who helped for the first time at the auction table and to Alvin A. who helped show and run the auction items.

Let’s not forget Frank D. for running the auction table with the help of Joyce C.

Thank you Vera for taking care of the sign in table. Could not do this with out you.

The secret word for the Internet door prize voucher for the JULY meeting is summer.

Minutes of Meeting May 22 2017

Dave started the meeting at 6:00 PM. There were 47 members and visitors. This number was low in part to a very heavy rain storm at time of meeting.

After welcoming everyone the members and guests enjoyed Salad Night. Dave thanks everyone who brought items to snack . Special thanks to Lina, Nikie, Joyce &  Silvia for setting up the table for this event. This international feast was enjoyed by all.

Thank you to everyone who helped set up and take down the tables. This is always appreciated.

Dave told the members that that the Lifestyle Home Show to be held on Sat. and Sun. January 28th and 29th has been paid.   We will be in the same great spot as in the past two years.

Also Dave told everyone the our tables for the 14th Annual stamp and coin show, on March 3 2018,  are selling and we expect another sellout for this annual event. If you have not sent in your request for table space, please do so quickly.

Bob K gave us a great treasure’s report.

Cathy G. gave a report on her 2 week trip to and from Cuba on their sailboat.  We are all happy to see them back on terra firma and in great health.

The Special Stamp Estate Sale was a great success and was enjoyed by all.   This was made possible by the donation of stamp material by Ruth B. whose husband and past member Tom “Georgie” B. passed away almost two years ago.

Thank you to Bob S., Joyce C., Alvin A. Bob K., and Frankie D. for their help with the auction.

Thank you Vera B. for keeping everyone in order and signed in.

Before the break the door prize vouchers were won by # 206 Henry I. and # 253 Allan K.

The 50/50 winners were Kent S. (guest) and Vera B. our official gate keeper.

After a brisk auction the name for the Treasure Box was pulled. If only Frank M. had been there he would have won.

Our speakers for the Jun 26 meeting will be #250 Linda C. and Ray H., from Jacksonville.

The secret word for a door prize voucher for the Jun meeting is VFW.

President Dave opened the meeting at 6:05 PM. There were 58 members and guest present.

Dave thanked everyone that brought finger food for snacks at this meeting. This was a lot of fun.

Thank you Mike P. for taking the minutes.

Thank you to everyone who helped set up and take down the tables and keep the building clean at the end of the meeting.

Bernie showed his new club shirt with his member number on it. Great looking shirt.

Motions were made my Francine F, and seconded by Anjela (and third by Joyce C.) to pay for next years Home Show and for the 14th Annual Stamp and Coin Show to be held at the Elk’s Lodge.

Francine is selling Belk’s cards for $5.00 each for Belk’s annual charity drive. The buyer gets a $5.00 credit for any thing bought on April 29th, Sat. Our club makes $5.00 for each card bought. This is a win win for our club. These cards will be available at our next meeting.

Dave spoke about the success of our 13th Annual Stamp and Coin Club show and went over the numbers with the club.

Bob K. gave the Treasurer’s report.

Dave welcomed new members #281 James V. and  #280 Alvin A.,  who was represented by Joyce Crawford at our meeting.

Frank W. gave a nice presentation on Canadian Coins and Bob K. gave us some much needed information.

Our guest speaker was Jason G. from Birds Of  A Feather who gave us a great program  on Bird Watching and Birding. This is a very easy and inexpensive hobby to get into. Jason is the local president of the Audubon Society. Mentioned was Payne’s Prairie State Park near Gainesville, Fl. A great place to see birds, alligators, wild horses and bison.

The two door prize vouchers were won by #250 Linda C. and #198 Joan B. Remember, check the minutes for the next meeting’s secret word for the extra chance.

The 50/50 winner was Keith M.  This is his 2 win for this in two months. Hey Keith… now is the time to play the lottery!!

The Treasure Box would have been won by Dr. John Z. if only he were there to claim his prize!  April secret word for a DPV is club.

Minutes of Meeting February 27 2017

President Dave R. opened the meeting on time at 6:00 PM. There were 68 members and guests present.

Everyone was warmly welcomed.

Dave R. reminded everyone that our 13th Annual Stamp and Coin Show and Chinese Auction will take place on Sat. March 4th at the Elk’s Lodge at 47 Old Kings Road N. in Palm Coast from 10:00 AM till 3:00 PM. Doors open for dealers to set up at 8:00 AM.

Everyone bringing in items for our Chinese Auction was asked to bring them in before 10:00 AM to be processed before the show opens.

Dave went over all the different committees that are helping and their duties.

Dave asked that all members wear their club shirts and/or their membership badges to identify them.

The COP will be on hand to direct traffic.

Dave sold the classic souvenir sheets produced by the post office for the good of the club. These sheets are not available at the post office. There are still 7 left and will be sold at the show on Saturday if you did not get a chance to get them at the meeting.

Keith M. gave a great talk on Amtrak train service and was of great interest to all.  Thank you Keith.

A certificate of appreciation was presented to Keith for this talk.

Dave introduced two new members:  # 277 Angela S.  and   #278 Adam C.

Our club is getting closer to # 300 and hope to reach this milestone soon.

Dave R. introduced special speaker Sheriff Rick Staly for his presentation. Sheriff Staly spoke about his first 60 days in office, Juvenile services, veteran’s courts, domestic homeland security, the departments focus on crime and gangs, concealed weapons, the area’s homeless problems and several other topics.

Dave presented Sheriff Staly a certificate of appreciation for his presentation.

Bob K. gave the treasurer’s report.

Door prizes won by # 133 Billy Bob for the 37th time!! Hee Hee, and # 199 Sue G. The secret word for this month’s door prize auction was “VFW”. Check the minutes for next month’s secret word for March meeting.

24 special door prizes were handed out and enjoyed by all. Thank you Jacob and Mathew for handing these out.   March secret word for DPV is  food.

The 50/50 was split into two drawings by hand counted vote and won by #109 Linda C. and #151 Keith M.

The auction was handled by Allen A. and Bob & Paul S. with the paperwork handled by our Vice President Frankie D. and Mike P. Thank you for all your help.

The Treasure Box would have been won by #236 Ken E.

Thank you to Tom H, Allen A. and Dave R. for setting up the tables and Tim S. for your help in breaking down the tables. Joan B. and Silvia R. for cleaning up after the meeting.

A very special thank you goes to Jane M. who took our minutes for this meeting. This is the first time our club had 23 pages of minutes for one meeting!! Great job Jane. You get Jody’s salary for your great effort.

A special thank you to everyone who brought in items for the “Good Of The Club” and Mike G. for bring in a box of stamps for free table.

Next month our club will have finger food. Club will provide finger food sandwiches. We ask everyone to bring some finger food items for the fun of it.

Minutes of Meeting Jan 23 2017

Dave R. calls meeting to order at 6:01. Attendance 70 (including 8-10 guests, many who met us at the home show)

Dave reminds everyone that, while we can bring in food again as of this month, all drinks must be purchased at the VFW cantee

Dave says our expenses are and will be up considerably this year.

Welcome David S. #275 and James C., #276…our newest members.

Lohman’s on Old Kings Rd is putting on a presentation for pre-need funeral services Feb. 7 at 11 am at Golden Corral. Members can get info and a free lunch.

Our annual club show on Mar. 4 is sold out, of course. Dave asks members to seek gift certificates from merchants they know as prizes for the show’s Chinese auction.  Secret word for DPV for FEB meeting is VFW

Thank you to everyone who helped set up for our covered dish meal tonight, and thanks to all who helped at our booth at the home show. Tom H. receives special recognition for helping set up tables 2 hours after passing a kidney stone!

Bob K. gives Treasurer’s Report, reminding everyone that, with expenses up, all support via membership, 50/50, auctions, etc. is especially important this year.

Mike N. talks about book he’s reading…”The End of Money”. It’s about how people deal with money and the future where all transactions are electronic.

Dr. John Z. talks about the first stamps in the Western world…they were “invented” by a Scottish efficiency expert because too many letters were ending up in the dead letter office instead of being paid for by the recipients.

Congrats to young member Matthew F. who has attained the Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts.
